Domaso is located on the northwestern shore of Lake Como, just north of Gravedona<\/a>, where the Livo River flows into the lake. With around 1,500 inhabitants, it is one of the largest villages in the Alto Lario, the northern part of Lake Como. Thanks to its open lakeside setting, long promenade and the constant Breva wind, Domaso has become one of the lake’s most popular destinations for water sports enthusiasts, campers and families. <\/p>

While Bellagio<\/a> and Varenna<\/a> are best known for their elegant villas and romantic streets, Domaso has a character all of its own. This former fishing village combines an authentic historic centre with a relaxed holiday atmosphere. During the summer months, the village comes alive, while outside the peak season it remains remarkably peaceful. Narrow cobbled lanes, old stone houses, archways and colourful fa\u00e7ades still reflect the days when Domaso flourished as an important settlement along the historic Via Regina, the ancient trade route that ran along the shores of Lake Como. <\/p>

The lakeside promenade and beach<\/h3>

One of Domaso’s greatest attractions is undoubtedly its long lakeside promenade. Charming caf\u00e9s and restaurants, small marinas, green lawns and a wide pebble beach line the waterfront. During the summer months, the beach is a popular spot for swimming, while the tree-lined promenade provides welcome shade even on the hottest days. It’s the perfect place for a leisurely stroll, with beautiful views across Lake Como and the surrounding mountains. <\/p>

The lakeside promenade and beach<\/h3>

Domaso is Lake Como’s premier destination for water sports. The almost daily Breva wind creates ideal conditions for windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing. Along the waterfront, you’ll find several sailing schools, surf clubs and rental centres where you can hire equipment, including SUP boards, kayaks and motorboats. <\/p>

Villa Camilla and the historic centre<\/h3>

Behind the lakeside promenade lies Domaso’s historic centre. Narrow cobbled lanes wind past characterful stone houses, centuries-old passageways and historic fa\u00e7ades, leading to the Church of San Bartolomeo, the village’s main church. Other notable landmarks include the Church of San Giovanni Battista and Villa Camilla, an elegant eighteenth-century villa that now serves as Domaso’s town hall. Several historic buildings are also decorated with beautifully preserved frescoes, reflecting the village’s rich heritage. <\/p>

Walking, cycling and the Livo waterfalls<\/h3>

There’s plenty to enjoy beyond the water as well. From Domaso, numerous hiking and mountain biking trails lead into the surrounding hills and forests. One of the most popular routes takes you to the Livo waterfalls, where crystal-clear mountain water cascades over the rocks into a series of natural pools. The surrounding valleys also offer spectacular panoramic views across the northern part of Lake Como. <\/p>

Wine and local gastronomy<\/h3>

Domaso is one of the Alto Lario’s most important wine-producing areas. The sunny hillsides above the village are lined with terraced vineyards where grapes have been cultivated since Roman times. Local restaurants serve regional specialities such as fresh Lake Como fish, polenta, gnocchi and the limited-production Domaso white wine. <\/p>
