Between Como and Cernobbio<\/a>, about two kilometres from the centre of Como, lies the quiet village of Tavernola. This small hamlet of Como is in fact the first settlement along the western shore of Lake Como when leaving the city. Still, it hardly stands out, as it sits slightly away from the main road, causing many travellers to pass by without noticing it. <\/p>

With around 3,000 inhabitants, Tavernola has the character of a typical small Italian village. The centre is charming and authentic, but you should not expect major tourist attractions here. Many visitors will therefore not have Tavernola on their to do list. The Breggia River flows past the village, with the Swiss border just behind it. <\/p>

Along the shores of Lake Como, Tavernola is defined by its many boathouses and direct access to the water. It is a place where life revolves around the lake, with small boats coming and going, fishermen bringing in their catch, and a large ramp where boats are launched. Do not expect a polished or refined atmosphere here. <\/p>

The connection to the water is also reflected in the local restaurants, where fish dishes take centre stage.<\/p>

Also notable is the presence of the large boathouse of Navigazione Laghi, where the lake\u2019s ferry boats are maintained.
