We reserve a table for the two of us at La Tua Osteria in Como. An idea with insider knowledge? Definitely! On the Instagram account of La Tua Osteria we regularly see traditional, simple but above all tasty dishes. Yes, really the osteria kitchen that makes your mouth water.
You will find La Tua Osteria in Via Maurizio Monti, within walking distance of the Duomo di Como, near the Autosilo Valduce public car park. You shouldn’t expect a beautiful view of Lake Como or some nice city vibes that the popular streets of Como offer in Via Maurizio Monti.
The front of the restaurant has little appeal: a boring terracotta facade without elegant letters naming the Osteria, nor a framed menu. Not immediately a visual connection with a restaurant, or even whether you know whether the restaurant is open. There’s no way a tourist would just walk in here…
We enter enthusiastically. We immediately noticed a cozy dining room. The rough stone walls and floor are reminiscent of a (wine) cellar containing a few sober tables with a white tablecloth. Lamps with warm light provide coziness.
Friendly but whispering quietly, a lady welcomes us. Would we like some water? She puts two menus on our table. Curiously, we roll our eyes over the dishes. And yes, for antipasti, primi, secondi and dolci we can choose from five dishes that will absolutely delight us. We may just be missing a few suggestions. The idea of the chef who found some incredibly tasty things at the fresh market this morning and still wants to get them on the plates of his guests…

As a starter we choose Vitello al punto rosa con salsa tonnata and Pappardella fatta in casa al ragu. For the main course we go for Lasagnetta vegetariana and Tagliata di fassona Piemontese. Know your classics! We toast with a glass of red house wine, which gets an absolute like.
Ten minutes later the starters are served by the owner of the restaurant, or so we assume. Friendly, yes, but otherwise little verve and not a word too much. Grazie! The pappardella and vittelo are very tasty, with a slight preference for the pappardella. The main courses don’t take long either. The lasagna and tagliata are served with the same level-headedness. Another easy review. Tasty, nothing to complain about.

La Tua Osteria is not exactly the most exuberant osteria. It lacks some dynamism or a touch of Italian flair. We cannot immediately find the your-touch in the name of the restaurant. And that mainly has to do with timid service, but correct service.
Nevertheless, La Tua Osteria is highly recommended if you are looking for honest cuisine for a fair price. The chef in his kitchen knows well what he is doing and knows how to excite with his dishes. We order another fondente al ciocollato and a creme brulèe. We pay the bill of 83 euros with a smile. Will we come back again? Absolutely! Something inside us says that we have not yet fully discovered the potential of La Tua Osteria tonight.
