One last dinner out… We want something fun! Something we will talk about in the car on our way back home tomorrow. We decide to head towards Como to discover the restaurant Lago Food Co. Why? The restaurant regularly appears in our Instagram feed with tasteful photos of delicious food and a cool interior.
Restaurant Lago Food Co is located right by the old harbor of Como and within walking distance of the train station terminus. Lungo Lario Trieste street runs along Lake Como. In the evening, it is pleasant to stroll along the many eateries. Couples enjoy the sunset on the old harbor wall. It is pleasantly busy tonight…
We enter the stately corner house. The interior is well-maintained and tastefully decorated. Wooden floors, the black lacquered steel of the bar, white walls, and subtle references to Lake Como such as old black-and-white photos, oars, rowboats, and retro posters. A refreshing approach compared to the often traditional Italian interiors? Definitely!
The beautiful logo, the website with quality photos, and the inviting Instagram feed are elements that underscore this approach. Lago Food Co pays attention to its marketing, and it seems to work.
We get a table in the side room, which is set up like a small veranda or patio if you will: large windows, a glass ceiling, and above our heads, fresh green hanging plants. Outside, the terrace is full. We order an aperitif while eagerly scanning the menu. For primi piatti, we order pasta ragú con porcini, and for the main course, the chef bakes two pizzas in his wood-fired oven.
We observe with interest. The restaurant is a well-oiled machine. Friendly waiters have all the tables under control. One dish after another is neatly served to the guests. Everyone is well aware of their task. A professional and correct approach.
The food is tasty without being truly surprising. Naturally, it’s hard to surprise with a classic pizza in front of you… But rest assured, the dishes on the tables around us also look delicious and flavorful. We pay over 80 euros for three glasses of wine and two starters and main courses. Okay, we are in the center of Como, but it still feels a bit too expensive for our taste.
Restaurant Lago Food Co is a safe choice. At least it seems that way. All the ingredients of a good restaurant are present: friendly and correct service, a classic menu with tasty dishes, and a cool interior. And that’s why we would say, definitely give it a try! Ideal for a night out with a group of friends: dining out and then walking to the center from one bar to another…
Would you prefer something more traditionally Italian with an extra portion of unpretentious coziness? Then there are undoubtedly alternatives. Will our mouths water again in the car tomorrow? Probably not. Will we come back again? Absolutely!
