Spend the night in the design hotel Palazzo Mazzini in the center of Como… This weekend we are going on a city trip in Como. Soak up the Christmas atmosphere and stroll through the atmospheric streets just the two of us. But we are also giving this weekend a sporty touch: we are taking part in the mezza maratona from Como to Laglio and back. The half marathon starts at Tempo Voltiano. We are looking for a nice place to spend the night, centrally located in Como and preferably not too far from the start and finish line.
Palazzo Mazzini located on Piazza Giuseppe Mazzini wins the flowers. The accommodation has only been open for six months, but despite this, Palazzo Mazzini has a fantastic 9.4 score on booking.com. Book now!
The gusts of wind and rain showers hit our faces around every corner of the streets. Nice weather here… We drag the trolleys behind us. Exhausted, we arrive at Palazzo Mazzini. The hotel is hidden in a courtyard closed by a fence. Just ring the bell and the gate unlocks.
At the back of the square a door opens and someone waves enthusiastically. A friendly lady welcomes us in the lobby. We are immediately offered an espresso. We are pleasantly surprised by the enthusiastic welcome!
Palazzo Mazzini describes itself as an aparthotel. Do you know the difference? A hotel offers more amenities but less privacy. At an aparthotel it is the other way around. But quickly forget that ugly word aparthotel. Palazzo Mazzini is very tasteful and goes all out for design. It feels eclectic. White and beige colors in combination with cacti and golden water taps hint at an Ibiza flavor. The heavy wooden ceilings are authentic and completely Palazzo. Italian design in the nice furniture and elegant lighting. Eye-catching works of art and powerful photo prints on the walls.
The door of our deluxe suite unlocks via a digital keypad. We look into an elongated symmetrical suite that radiates tranquility. From the bed we watch a large television screen that is integrated as a photo frame. A colorful cushion and carpet add color. Furthermore, all comfort is of course present. The fragrance sticks spread an Acqua del Lario scent throughout the room. We hear nothing of the noise on the street.
Palazzo Mazzini does not serve breakfast itself. They refer you to Caffè Caffè and Pasticierria Mignon, two bars that are literally next to Palazzo Mazzini and where you can enjoy a fresh and authentic breakfast. By the way, breakfast is included in the price. On our last day we check out early because we have an early flight to catch. Unfortunately, both bars are not open yet. We are actively looking for a breakfast address where the coffee is served a little earlier. Thoughtful!
You can also cross private parking off your list. You must park in one of the public car parks in Como with the applicable parking rates. Our car remained in the garage for a maximum of 24 hours and we paid 28 euros. Not a little of course, but it could have been worse. Know that many hotels with an indoor garage also charge 15 euros… You may also wonder whether you even need a car in the center of Como.
The location is truly beautiful. A five-minute walk to Piazza Cavour where the ferry boats moor. In the shadow of the Duomo di Como. On Piazza Giuseppe Mazzini and Piazza Alessandro Volta with its numerous bars and restaurants. Within walking distance of parking, public transport and the train station. We could go on and on.
Palazzo Mazzini has ten rooms including suites, rooms and penthouse apartments. We pay 450 euros for two nights. Just a bit more than the budget we would normally spend, but for this time of year, the quality of the accommodation and the location, this is a very fair price. If you want to stay in the center of Como, as far as we are concerned there is only one address today!
