Il Trattoria del Fagiano in the village square of Moltrasio… Restaurant Il Trattoria del Fagiano is situated on the small square in the village Moltrasio. Tonight this will be our fifth time to shove on to a table here. We are warmly welcomed by la mamma Isa Donegana. She whispers molto molto stranieri in our ear and indeed, on our left side we have a couple of Americans and on the right side some French people.
We accidentally discovered Il Trattoria del Fagiano two years ago by just driving around haphazardly in the small streets of Moltrasio with the car. It was dark and raining during a heavy thunderstorm. We still wonder, how was it possible finding this restaurant? Our fellow diners on the right and left side probably read the positive comments on Tripadvisor. When you go off (tourist)season you’ll be surrounded by Moltrasini, the inhabitants of Moltrasio and some locals. Offcourse then you’ll get the extra Italian touch!
Can we make some suggestion out of the menu? For starters: bruschette misti. That one particular half-warm crispy toast covered with bresaola, topped of wih honey and finished with some nuts… Hmmmmm delicious! For main course: casarecce al fagiano. Some pasta with pheasant ragú… This specialty of the house is definately our favorite dish! And please bring on a liter of the red house wine. Our golden tip? Just forget the menu and let Isa surprise you with some nice typical Italian food.
Il Trattoria del Fagiano is a real Italian trattoria. Simple and delicious local dishes. In this restaurant we learned a good thing. Having a good meal in Lake Como doesn’t have to cost a fortune! What did we pay? You won’t get two steaks for it in Antwerp! However, more important than the bill is the honest atmosphere and Italian authenticity because this is really priceless! Thanks to Il Trattoria del Fagiano, we totaly fell in love with Lake Como…
