Visit Como and Brunate on Lake Como… This morning we walk around in the city of Como in the soft morning sun. This is our first time being here in summer season. Despite heavy traffic on the acces roads to Como, it’s pleasurable to be here this morning. Street musicians are playing peppy music while day trippers are busy shopping and licking their gelato. We walk by the cathedral Duomo di Como which is dated from 1936, one of region’s most important structure.
Along the cathedral we are heading to the lakeside where taxiboats are waiting for tourist to come. We walk over Pizza Cavour, this time without wet feet… We suggest to go through the port over the long jetty to the artwork ‘Electric Life’. It looks a bit like an abstract hashtag. The artwork is dedicated to Allesandro Volta, inventer of the electric battery. He was an inhabitant of Como by the way.
On Saturday you have a market in Como but do not expect a traditional market with Italian delights… Looking for cheap sunglasses, a belt, smartphonecover or not so sexy underwear, you’ll find it here! Through the small stalls we look for a way out because churchbells are ringing for noon.
Ten minutes later we are enjoying an Aperol Spritz aperitif with some snacks on a nice terrace. Behind our pair of sunglasses we observe passersby. Of course we didn’t pick this bar by coincidence. First of the all, the bill will be half what you would pay 500 meters down the street close to lakeshore on Piazza Cavour. Secondly, we recently watched here on television the game Italy-Sweden (UEFA EURO 2016) and we still cherish some good memories.
We leave Como and drive to Brunate along a twisty and steep road. If you don’t have a car or you don’t like switchbacks and narrow passages you can take the colorful funicular which takes you to Brunate in only ten minutes! With the colorful train you are at the top of Brunate in only ten minutes.
We see two reasons to go up to Brunate: you’ll have a splendid view of the Como region and you’ll find Trattoria dei Bracconeri…
This trattoria was found by coincidence. It has one big secret. We only reveal it if you keep it to yourself. Trattoria dei Bracconeri has a nice little terrace with a splendid view over Como. This gem stirs your imagination. We order two glasses of wine and a delicious Caprese salad. Yes, this is the right way to start our weekend!
