Hotel Posta Moltrasio in Moltrasio… It’s been just under three weeks since we waved goodbye to Lake Como. Yet here we are again, with our suitcase wheels rolling down Via Regina in Moltrasio. But what brings us here? The day after tomorrow, we’re attending the Beyoncé and Jay-Z concert in Milan, but first, we’re treating ourselves to two days of Italian dolce vita at Lake Como. We are staying at Hotel Posta Moltrasio on the shores of Lake Como.
The hotel’s location is excellent… Both the ferry and the bus have stops right in front of the hotel. You don’t need your car for an outing (you can leave it in the hotel’s paid parking lot). Looking for a bite to eat? Within walking distance, you can choose from Ristorante Imperialino, Ristorante La Baia, Trattoria La Moltrasina, or the hotel’s own restaurant, La Veranda. Want some action? You can rent a boat nearby at Nettuno or go paddling at the man-made beach, Lido di Moltrasio.
Hotel Posta Moltrasio is currently run by the third generation of the Taroni family. Numerous photos on the walls capture the family’s moments. The evening shift has just ended when we arrive. The pater familias welcomes us and hands us the key to our room.
We have a beautiful triple room. Some elements, like the antique mirror in the bathroom, give the room an authentic and charming atmosphere. The room is spotless and offers all the desired comforts. We have a view of the back of the Grand Hotel Imperiale and keep the curtains closed.
Breakfast is well-prepared with a wide range of classic options and is served in the hotel’s veranda. This “veranda” transforms into “La Veranda,” the restaurant of Hotel Posta Moltrasio, for lunch and dinner. Anyone looking for a pre- or post-meal drink can visit Café Bellini, the hotel’s bar. After finishing the last sip of our espressos, we head out for a walk from Moltrasio to Laglio…
An hour later, while sitting on the terrace of Enoteca Millesimo for an aperitif, we get a call from the hotel. Would we kindly clear our room? A small mistake on our part, we reserved only one night, although we planned to stay for two days. Luckily, there is still a room available, and the hotel will move our belongings for us. Top service, grazie mille!
Hotel Posta Moltrasio offers everything you would expect as a guest. The staff is welcoming and friendly, doing their utmost to make your stay as pleasant as possible. The hotel has a restaurant, a bar, an excellent location, and is reasonably priced.
However, we feel that something is missing… After much deliberation, that “something” seems to be “peace and quiet.” We sense a slight tension in the hotel. Is it the pater familias who is rather stern and strict with family and staff? The familial atmosphere that Hotel Posta Moltrasio prides itself on wasn’t immediately apparent to us. Additionally, the constant coming and going of the ferry, the bus, shuttle taxis from surrounding hotels, and guests’ cars around the hotel didn’t exactly make for a romantic experience. We might sound a bit critical, but it wasn’t love at first sight!
Finally, it’s time to settle the bill. We pay a reasonable 124 euros for the triple room with a promotional discount during high season. The double room we move to for the second night costs 150 euros.
