Hotel Fioroni in Carate Urio… Finally our booking is a fact: drove past countless times and mutually judged it looks nice and hmmmm I don’t know yet. Wonder who will get his gram this weekend of the two of us.
Hotel Fioroni is a small two-star hotel that charms from the outside. The exterior is authentic with a beautiful facade. The hotel is next to Piazza Minoletti just opposite the church of Laglio. The entrance is somewhat hidden under a green pergola. The back of the hotel hovers above Lake Como and guarantees a beautiful lakeview.
This weekend we pay 270 euros for two nights, including breakfast. That is rather on the high side as far as we are concerned, although we have noticed that prices for an October month are quite high at all accommodations. A consequence of the poor tourist summer due to Corona that must be compensated.
Family room number five is tiny and has basic furnishings. Little light, a bit gloomy. The bathroom is small: a sink, toilet and shower on barely two square metres. A problem? Hmmm maybe just on the edge… Albergo della Torre is a two star hostel for which we pay 86 euros and price quality remains just acceptable.
The bar and sitting area of the hotel betray panache, ambiance and colorful evenings far and less far into the past. The piano with its host must undoubtedly be the big culprit: when the hammer hits the string, Hotel Fioroni is buzzing!
The welcome by a young man is friendly. He escorts us to room 9, which is outside the hotel, on the other side of the square. Hotel Fioroni also has an additional building where four rooms have been furnished. It makes little difference as far as the view of Lake Como is concerned. And we see another advantage in it: no buzz (if that were the case) from the hotel restaurant.
All basic comfort is present in our room that looks neat and tidy in a green pastel color. There is a kitchenette available and of course a balcony with a view of Lake Como! In the bathroom with shower there is still a shower curtain. That’s not supposed to be in a hotel by 2022, right?
In the morning we nudge the sleep out of our eyes with a delicious coffee on the balcony. Life is good! We go to the breakfast room. The young man at the reception walks towards us. Whether we drive a white Fiat rental car? Yes sir! We unknowingly left our car at the place of the local pharmacist and the car urgently needs to be moved. Only five places are reserved for hotel guests Hotel Fioroni.
The breakfast keeps the vain. No outliners, no slips. The buffet is served by a young lady. The breakfast room lacks some cosiness and is sober. The view of Lake Como makes up for it…

When we leave we sign the guestbook. We run into papa Fioroni (?) who immediately asks in which room we stayed. Euhm, room 9 signore… “Ah, then you didn’t come to eat in our restaurant.” We consider it as Italian hospitality and a proud hotel owner who likes to show off his cooking skills. Or is he perhaps the keyboard player on duty?
We will definitely come back again and then we will definitely eat and fraternize! You can guess who finally got his gram this weekend…
