Hotel La Locanda del Cantiere in Laglio… We start writing this article with great enthusiasm. Our stay at La Locanda del Cantiere was more than successful!
You will find the hotel in Laglio in the (old) Via Regina, not far from the summer residence of Clooney Georges and a stone’s throw from Via Regina Nuova. The old Via Regina has become our favorite. Perhaps the best place to stay or live regardless in Moltrasio, Carate Urio or Laglio. Easily accessible and not far from the city of Como.
The relatively quiet and safe lane runs along the water’s edge with a guaranteed view of Lake Como. Here and there you will find restaurants, hotels, charming bars and local shops. A pleasant mix between apartments, houses and beautiful villas. A nice balance where you can enjoy the peace and quiet anonymously.
La Locanda del Cantiere is run by two brothers. Originally La Locanda was just a restaurant. Since February 2017, after very thorough renovations, rooms have been added. It’s late when we arrive. The brothers are sitting at a table in the restaurant drinking a beer. One of them guides us to our room, the first of a row of six similar rooms.
We are very pleasantly surprised. A spacious and neat room. Modern and tastefully decorated. A cozy sitting area by the window with a view of Lake Como. A bathroom with a spacious shower. The air conditioning shuts down when the outside window is opened. Electricity is only availabe when the keycard is in the slot. Electrically operated roller shutters. A coffee machine and minibar, good WIFI and attractive indirect lighting.
From the outside, La Locanda del Cantiere seems relatively small and authentic, but in the rooms you imagine yourself in a large hotel with standard comfort. And that is meant as a compliment. You naturally notice that rooms have only been in use for six months.
Breakfast is served buffet style from 8:30 am. Cheese, salami and ham for your roll or toast. A hard-boiled egg or a fresh egg from the kitchen. Cereal, yogurt and fruit. Jam and honey. We can order unlimited coffees.
La Locanda del Cantiere, as the name suggested, was once a workhouse where boats were repaired. And that heritage has been handled well: the authentic elements are tastefully combined into a cozy and original interior, with the obligatory nochalance.
The sun’s rays announce a beautiful day. The hotel looks charming from the outside. The red facade with the restaurant and the pointed roofs of the rooms contrast with the bright blue light. We strum on the iPad and plan our sunny autumn day. We’re looking forward to it again!
When we arrive back in the evening, for once we don’t have to look for a parking space. There is ample parking on the other side of the hotel. But even better, La Locanda del Cantiere has its own private parking lot that is free to use for hotel guests. And that is quite a trump card.
On Monday morning we take some quick pictures of our room. Amazing right, so neat! The cleaning lady will certainly not have much work to do in our room. We check out with a firm handshake.
This place to stay on Lake Como is highly recommended, especially for couples. The price? 120 euros for one night including breakfast. We have promised to do some advertising again. So be sure to say hi to them! Arrivederci…
